I recently realised that we should try to get a balanced perspective on world affairs by reading not only Western publications like The Economist, The Guardian or the New York Times, but also influential Asian ones like China Daily. True, it is owned by the Chinese government but the quality of journalism is quite high, the English is respectable and it looks at issues from an Asian perspective.
This commentary from China Daily on China’s disaster assistance to the Philippines is quite interesting. It provides the Chinese response to the widespread criticism of its relief efforts in the wake of Super Typhoon Haiyan, the most powerful typhoon ever to have made landfall.
