Number of UK children complaining about exam stress soars by 200%

The number of British children complaining about suffering from exam stress has soared by 200 per cent in the past year, according to ChildLine.

The children’s helpline said it had carried out 34,454 counselling sessions with children complaining about school and education problems – 58 per cent were about the impact of exam stress, up 200 per cent from the previous year.

It added that its education website had also experienced 87,500 hits during the year in a new report.

The rise comes at a time when teachers’ leaders have complained about government plans to inject more rigour into GCSE and A-level exams by putting the focus back on the end of year course has caused more stress for children
